Bill Dodge’s book offers a vision for a way out and forward, through the creation of citizen-led “regional charters” to reconstruct the basis for governance and collective action at the most important scales, those within which we live out our daily lives.

Regional citizens are critical to making regional charters succeed

You and your fellow regional citizens have to “create the parades” for community leaders to join to prepare Regional Charters, implement their ten components, and pursue a REG Compact to make regions thrive for all.  Seasoned professionals — regionalists — help design the successful regional parades.

Regional Charters provides a guideBook for becoming practicing regional citizens:

A.  Declare Yourself a Regional Citizen

  • follow regional challenges in the media

  • peruse a regional report, book, or website

  • attend a regional dialogue

  • go on a regional visitation

  • talk with regional citizens and regionalists

  • sign a regional citizen pledge*

  • define your personal regional vision*

B.  Develop Your Regional Citizen Skills

  • enroll in a regional citizenship program

  • join a regional civic organization

  • participate in a revolutionary regional initiative*

C.  Practice Being a Regional Citizen

  • advance a new regional initiative, annually

  • “regionalize” one of your organizations, annually*

  • recruit another regional citizen, annually

Consider all of these activities on your path to becoming a regional citizen, but especially focus on the ones marked with an asterisk.
